New Adventures

Hola Amigos,

Exciting news – Emily Adey finished her degree in Ocean Engineering and Naval Architecture and got her iron ring last week! She’s been so busy with final design projects and exams that I’ve barely spoken to her all month, but the hard work paid off and I’m super proud of her! Better look out now that we’ve got two engineers in the family!

I’m bummed I wasn’t able to celebrate with the family in St. John’s, but the Adey girls are going to celebrate in style the way we do best – with another sister trip! When I graduated, I spent a month backpacking around Peru; Emily’s going to spend a month making her way through Central America.

Jon also graduated with his degree in Naval Architecture and the two of them left this past weekend for a 2-week trip to Belize and Guatemala before I join Emily in Costa Rica and Panama for another 2.5 weeks starting next week!

I know it’s been a silent few months on the blog, but I’m excited to get traveling and blogging again, if only for a few weeks. We’re starting the trip in San Jose, Costa Rica, and will be backpacking our way to Panama City. Some of our stops in Costa Rica include Monteverde Cloud Forest, Arenal Volcano, Tortuguero National Park, and Puerto Viejo – so you can look forward to learning a bit more about those.

We’re sticking mostly to the Caribbean side of the country in Costa Rica and will be crossing the border into Panama on the north side of the country. The plan is to take it easy in Panama, so we’ll be spending a fair bit of time on the beach in Bocas del Toro before visiting Boquete and finishing (appropriately) at one of the great engineering wonders of the modern world – the Panama Canal!

I don’t have too much more to say about the trip right now, but check back next week to hear all about it! Also, you can follow me on instagram for photos @mariaadey

Congrats Emily and Jon!

Love,
Maria
