Argentina

I first visited Argentina in 2015, but it was during my trip to Brazil and I only crossed into the country for a single day to visit Iguazu Falls (see my Brazil page). More recently, I visited Argentina for 10 days in 2024 in Seth. We spent 2 days exploring Buenos Aires before flying south to Ushuaia, which is the most southerly city in the world. Finally, we flew back to El Calafate to spend 5 days touring around the highlights of the Argentina Patagonia region. We visited Perito Moreno glacier and spent 3 days backpacking on the Sendero al Fitz Roy.

An Expensive Welcome to Argentina – After a very sad winter (weather-wise), I was thrilled to have a big trip on the agenda for mid-February to early March! Me and Seth started travelling again last year with a visit to my cousin, who is studying in Finland. We had an incredible time, so I convinced Seth that 2024 was the year to finally cross a major trip off my bucket list – hiking in Patagonia! I still had some banked vacation time from 2020… read more

Two Days in Buenos Aires – My last post ended up being a step by step instructional on how not to get scammed out of your money in Argentina, so now let’s talk about the actual fun things we did in the city! Our first activity in beautiful Buenos Aires was a walking tour to try and get a lay of the land and learn a bit of the city’s history. As with most major cities these days, there’s a free walking tour that leaves daily. Buenos Aires is such a big city… read more

Birdwatching in Ushuaia – We arrived in Ushuaia very late at night and took a taxi to our hostel. It was a harsh welcome because Buenos Aires was 30 degrees and Ushuaia was more like 10 degrees. It didn’t help that our room at the hostel could only be accessed from outside and no one had turned on the radiator before we arrived, so it was freezing on the first night. We had a full day excursion booked, so it was an early rise the next morning… read more

Tierra del Fuego National Park – On our second day in Ushuaia, we were determined to visit Tierra del Fuego National Park. I was really tempted to check out some of the hiking trails in the area, but I felt that visiting the park was a unique experience that I didn’t want to miss, so we opted to do the much more touristy activity. We signed up for a tour and got picked up at our hostel in the morning to drive towards the park. The bus dropped us off… read more

Sendero al Fitz Roy Backpacking Trip – While it was super fun to visit Buenos Aires and Ushuaia, let’s be real – I came to Patagonia to hike. There are lots of options for hiking in both Argentina and Chile, but there are really two quintessential trips that everyone wants to cross off their bucket list and most of the tourists we met were all doing some variation of the same trip. Those hikes are Torres del Paine in Chile and Sendero al Fitz Roy in Argentina… read more

From Argentina to Chile – We returned to El Calafate after an epic 3 days hiking the Sendero al Fitz Roy in El Chalten. We only had a two-day break before starting our second major hike – 5 days in Torres del Paine National Park. I must admit, these two days were a bit miserable for me. I had caught a cold a few days before and it peaked on our time off. Honestly, it was better than dealing with a cold on the trail, but I was a bit irritable in between… read more
