About

Hello!

My name is Maria and welcome to my blog! I started this blog in 2010 and have used the space for all kinds of different purposes over the years. It documents travel logs from my trips around the world, as well as the details of my extensive adventures within British Columbia, the place I currently call home.

Originally, I created my blog as a place to share about my travels to Malawi with Engineers Without Borders in 2010 and later to document a year spent living abroad in the UK in 2012. I grew up in Newfoundland, a rocky island on Canada’s far East Coast. After finishing my university degree, I moved to Vancouver, BC in 2014 and used this space to update my family and friends about my new experiences. I have continued to travel and document my adventures around the world as a tourist, though I usually only travel internationally once per year.

In 2018, I became more passionate about all things outdoors and adventure related. I love the variety of activities I can do each season in BC and decided to devote more time to write about my outdoor adventures. Since then, the blog has become a dedicated space for writing about my hiking, camping, skiing, and kayaking adventures on the West Coast. It’s been a joy for me to write about these experiences, and in the process, I believe I have created a pretty extensive guide to the outdoors near Vancouver. I hope my travel logs and adventure tips can be a resource to those looking to get outside more often.

To aid others in navigating the outdoors, I recently developed a travel map that links to all the local points of interest in BC and related resources on this blog. To date, it only includes attractions in BC, but I plan to expand it to include my other travel resources from around the world as well. Check out the map below and use it to plan your own adventures!

If any of this sounds like your cup of tea, check out some of my posts! I tried my best to make this site easy to navigate depending what sorts of activities you’re interested in! If you live in BC or are visiting, check out my Outdoor BC posts – I’m based in Vancouver so most activities are within a few hours drive. If you’re travelling abroad and interested in my experiences, check out my country profiles and blog entries under Travel. I don’t consider myself an expert on any of the countries I’ve travelled to, but I do feel very knowledgeable about the outdoor attractions in BC, so don’t hesitate to reach out with questions. I don’t believe in gatekeeping the outdoors, but I do believe in our individual responsibility to recreate responsibility and treat the outdoors with respect.

Thanks for reading!
